Introduced in 1995, the 993 Turbo coupé heralded a new era with its twin-turbocharged 3.6ltr engine, delivering an impressive maximum power output of 300kW (408PS; 402hp). This powerhouse was equipped with air-to-air intercoolers, electronic engine management, redesigned cylinder heads, and other enhanced internal components.
Distinguishing itself as the first 911 Turbo with all-wheel drive, a feature inherited from the flagship 959 model, the 993 Turbo showcased widened rear wheel arches (approximately 6 cm wider than the Carrera), revamped front and rear bumper moldings, and a fixed "whale tail" rear wing housing the intercoolers. Standard features included new 18-inch (460 mm) alloy wheels with hollow spokes.
Among its innovations, the 993 Turbo was among the world's earliest production cars to incorporate an OBDII diagnostics system (though not present in the 3.8-liter and GT versions, and introduced to the normally aspirated 993 variants in the 1996 model year). Additionally, the car boasted larger brakes compared to the base Carrera model, enhancing its performance capabilities.
