About 993 (911) C2 1994-97

The Porsche 911 underwent another significant overhaul for the model year 1994, known internally as the Type 993. This iteration held particular significance as it represented the final evolution of the air-cooled 911 lineage, which had its roots in the original 1964 model. The exterior of the 993 boasted completely redesigned front and rear ends. The new bodywork featured smoother lines and a more aerodynamic front end reminiscent of the iconic 959.  The rear wheel drive version (RWD) was known as the Carrera 2

While the engine capacity of the 993 remained at 3.6 liters, advancements in engine management and exhaust design resulted in an increase in power output. Initially rated at 272 PS (200 kW; 268 hp), the power was further elevated to 286 PS (210 kW; 282 hp) starting from the model year 1996.

A noteworthy innovation introduced in the 993 was the utilization of variable-length intake runners through the innovative "Varioram" system, which debuted on the 1996 models. This technology aimed to address the traditional trade-off between high-rpm power and low-rpm torque production. The "Varioram" system represented one of the pioneering applications of its kind in production vehicles, marking a significant advancement in engine performance optimization.

In addition to the exterior updates, the 993 introduced an all-new multilink rear suspension system, derived in part from the rear multilink design of the unreleased Porsche 989. This new suspension setup significantly enhanced the car's ride quality and handling characteristics.
