About 991 Targa 4S 3.0L (420 Bhp)

Unlike the 993, 996, and 997 generation Targa 911s with sliding-glass roofs, the 991 generation Targa cars return to the original Targa design. The earlier Targas were essentially 911 Carreras with large sunroofs, but the 991 Targa captures the true Targa spirit.

The 991.2 Targa 4S uses the Cabriolet’s power-folding mechanism to stow its cloth top. Press the same switch as the Cabriolet, and the Targa’s clamshell rear hatch opens, the Targa bar flaps open, and the top folds and stows behind the rear seats. The whole process, taking 19 seconds, is complex but elegant.

The 991.2 911 Targa 4S is powered by a 3.0ltr twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing 420 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed manual, with an optional PDK seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Targa has softer suspension than the coupe and convertible, noticeable only when pushing hard. It turns in with precision and exits corners with impressive grip. Despite electrically-assisted steering, it provides a good connection to the road.

Without rear-wheel steer or active anti-roll bars, the Targa is more prone to understeer and feels less precise than the Coupe. However, the ride remains well-judged, handling rough surfaces without much discomfort. The official 0-62 mph time is 4.0 seconds with Sport Chrono, just 0.2 seconds slower than the hard-top C4S. The 3.0ltr turbo engine offers accessible and fun performance, and the PDK gearbox delivers precise, rapid shifts.
