About 944 Turbo S 2.5L 8V 1988>>

In 1988, Porsche unveiled the 944 turbo S, featuring a more potent engine designated as the M44/52, delivering a maximum power output of 250PS (184kW) at 6,000 rpm and 350Nm (258 lb⋅ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm. This upgrade surpassed the standard 944 turbo's engine, which generated 223PS (164kW) and 243lb⋅ft (329 Nm) of torque. Achieving this heightened output involved employing a larger KKK K26-8 turbocharger housing and revised engine mapping, maintaining maximum boost until 5,800 rpm.

Car and Driver's assessment in June 1988 showcased the 944 turbo S's impressive performance, clocking a 0–97 km/h (0–60 mph) acceleration time of 5.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.9 seconds at 163 km/h (101 mph). The factory-rated top speed stood at 261 km/h (162 mph).

The 944 turbo S's suspension boasted the "M030" option, featuring Koni adjustable shocks at the front and rear, progressive rate springs, larger hollow rear anti-roll/torsion bars, and harder durometer suspension bushings. Chassis stiffening brackets were also integrated into the front frame rails. The wheels, known as the Club Sport design, were 16-inch Fuchs forged and flat-dished, with front widths of 7 inches (178 mm) and rear widths of 9 inches (229 mm). The manual transmission included a higher friction clutch disc setup, an external cooler, and a limited-slip differential with a 40% lockup setting. Front brakes were sourced from the 928 S4, featuring larger Brembo GT 4-piston fixed calipers and 12-inch discs, while the rear brakes remained consistent with the standard Turbo.

Inside, the 944 turbo S showcased power seats for both driver and passenger, with the majority of models sporting a "Burgundy plaid" (Silver Rose edition) interior color. However, other interior/exterior color combinations were available. A 10-speaker sound system and equalizer + amp were common options, with earlier prototypes featuring a "special wishes custom interior" package.
